Our gut is our second brain, did you know?

Reading time: 4 minutes

There are more and more indications, but also more and more studies show that our intestines and our brains communicate directly with each other. The most recognizable is that, for example, in the situation when you are experiencing stress, how often does it not happen that you have or get problems with your stomach?

For a long time it was not clear what the causes and physiological processes underlie irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In recent years, our knowledge of this has increased enormously, mainly due to an increased understanding of what we call the “brain-gut axis”. This term indicates that the gut and the brain communicate with each other continuously and bilaterally.

The communication between the gut and the brain takes place subconsciously because the autonomic nervous system connects the brain with the gut's own nervous system, the so-called “enteric nervous system”. Signals are sent “up” from the gut, but the brain also sends signals to the gut.

The role that serotonin plays is important.

The signal substance serotonin, which is located in the gut for more than 90% and mainly in the brain, plays a crucial role in regulating the signal transmission between the gut and the brain. An altered activity or change in the level of serotonin can therefore cause disturbances in both intestinal and brain function. This also explains the connection between psychological problems (for example depression and panic disorder) and intestinal complaints.

Strengthening the barrier function.

There are alternative strategies to positively influence the signal transmission between the gut and the brain. Because the intestinal bacteria have a strong interaction with the mucous membrane of the intestine, these bacteria can strongly influence the intestinal function. Among other things, the intestinal bacteria have a major influence on the integrity of the intestinal mucosa and the barrier function, which are important components of the immune system. The immune system of the gut must be kept in "top condition" and properly "tuned" so that not only the gut but also the entire body is not adversely affected by the bacteria and other substances to which the gut is continuously exposed.

Recent scientific research indicates, among other things, that certain prebiotic bacteria are able to improve the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa. In this way they can contribute to protecting the enteric nervous system of the gut against irritation and damage, which has positive consequences for the signal transmission between the gut and the brain.

chaga

However, that's not the only thing. We also know that Chaga has a positive effect on increasing the immune system. Chaga has long been spoken of with great appreciation and Chaga is said to help against bacteria, viruses and inflammation, against stomach ulcers and other digestive disorders, against tuberculosis, against cancer, against diabetes, against chronic fatigue, against heart and liver diseases… Chaga is certainly not a panacea, but it has proven to have a positive effect on supporting the recovery process.

Amitabha

At Terracotta TCM Europe BV we have developed a product (a nutritional supplement), Amitabha, which mainly focuses on supporting the human body when it comes to disorders of the gastrointestinal system (such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, pancreatic disorders, etc. ). On our site you can read the stories of people who, among other things, have used this product.

It has been deliberately chosen not only to use Chaga, but also to add Reishi and Poria coconut extract to the product. The Reishi (Ganoderma) is called the "mushroom of immortality" and supports the immune system, the condition, the heart, the brain, the respiration and gives more energy. The Poria Cocos has strong immune-modulating properties, which means that the mushroom balances the immune system. If it is too weak, it will be improved. If it is too active, it becomes less reactive.

With Amitabha you have a product, a nutritional supplement, in your hands that can help you to support the processes in the gastrointestinal system in your body and / or help reduce the disturbances.
